Kids Science Forum is a monthly science club for youth ranging from ages five to eighteen. Currently, the forum is run entirely by children.
We have had many meetings in the past years. The club was first started by William Chen. Since then, Kids Science Forum has changed dramatically.
The club is for youth who thirst for knowledge. We create presentations for different topics and share our ideas. A basic plan of a meeting goes like this:
- Greetings, Introduction to the topic of the month, etc.
- Presentations + Questions
- Educational game
We make a slideshow for each presentation and research about the topic. Most importantly, we socialise and talk about our ideas and thoughts, making us all more confident when we open our mouths to speak. Topics we have had in the past are Chemistry, History, Coding, Geology, Biology, Cells, Mathematics, Filming, Robotics, Geography, and much, much more.
In January 2023, many parents decided that the youth participating in Kids Science Forum were old enough to run it themselves.
The club held an election and picked out a council:
- Mike Zhu as President
- Marie Guan as V.P. Social
- Bonnie Wu as V.P. China Representative
- Emma Zhang as V.P. Education
- and Jessica Li as V.P. Marketing Director.
After three months, which the new council considered a term, Kids Science Forum had diminished to eleven loyal members. Mike handed the president role to Marie and demoted himself to V.P. Social. Marie immediately made many changes to the forum, including:
- A point system to pick off the undedicated members, leaving only the dedicated ones behind
- A chart to keep track of all the members identities, keeping KSF organized
- A new role called Secretary to record the information in each meeting, saving a page or two of notes for later review
Kids Science Forum grew and is still growing. We are growing with it, and which each meeting we go to bed smarter and happier.
